USA Today: The newest tourist attraction in bustling Leicester Square? The trendy W hotel - specifically, its can't -miss, disco-fabulous "W" sign. For Londoners and London tourists, the nine-foot-tall, color changing "W" is quite an attention getter.
When I checked out of the just-opened hotel on Monday afternoon and waited by the "W" for a taxi, I watched with two of the hotel's dapperly dressed doormen as passer-by after passer-by stared at the giant W. If the sidewalk was any more crowded, I'd put money down that we'd see distracted pedestrians collide.
At least five people stared at it as they walked by in the 10-minute period. One young couple even posed to take photographs in front of it. Another man kept looking at it so quizzically that I finally told him it was a hotel sign and that he could enter the hotel to see the lobby. The doormen told me that this happens all the time.
