Second Air Show Crash in 24 Hours

The pilot of a post-World War II plane was killed Saturday after crashing into a runway in West Virginia. It was the second air show crash in 24 hours. Nine people were killed in an air show crash on Friday in Reno, Nevada.

In West Virginia, the pilot was killed after the plane crashed and burst into flames. Officials declined to identify the pilot, saying next-of-kin were being notified. According to a Federal Aviation Administration registry, the T-28 plane was co-owned by two pilots - Jack Mangan and Pierre Boursse. Mangan was a member of an aerial stunt team called the Trojan Horseman, and he performed at air shows around the country. Mangan graduated from the Air Force Academy and spent 13 years as an active duty fighter pilot, logging thousands of hours flying the F-15. He was awarded several service medals and was once named instructor of the year.

Witnesses said Saturday's crash happened during a stunt in which two T-28 planes were flying belly-to-belly.
