Why Facebook? According to a new study, Facebook is the new preferred platform of the travel industry. Web traffic to travel brand sites fell 8% in the year ending March 2011. In that same period, Facebook page views jumped 20%. The study by L2 Digital IQ Index measured the digital competence of 89 travel brands including hotel, airline and cruise companies. The L2 study was made in partnership with the George Washington University School of Business.
One nice feature of the Facebook application is a 'Specials' page showing discounts and special offers at various properties. Clicking on one of the specials opens a page for that property.
Visitors to the Facebook page can also chat live with an Omni reservations agent. The application will automatically send a confirmation once the booking is made.
