Airline Passengers Safe After Engine Catches Fire

All 136 passengers on a Cathay Pacific passenger jet are safe after the plane was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff from Singapore's Changi Airport.

The Airbus flight enroute to Jakarta turned back to the airport following an engine-related issue, the Hong Kong-based airline said. Passengers reported hearing two sharp bangs about 20 minutes after takeoff followed by a violent shaking of the plane and a power failure that took out the cabin lights.

Passengers peering through the cabin windows reported seeing an engine on fire while acrid smoke entered the cabin. One report said pilots shut down the engine after receiving a warning. Terrified passengers were praying as the plane limped back to Singpoare. There were no reported injuries.
