The good news for organizers is that every sport had bids within every session and price band. This is what they were hoping to achieve as they did not want to have empty stadiums as has been seen in previous Olympics. Many events were oversubscribed which means that the events will go to ballot, in the hope that this will give everyone a fair chance to get some tickets.
The opening ceremony had ten times more applications than there were tickets and other events such as swimming, tennis, track cycling, equestrian, and triathlon were also sold out. On May 10, successful applicants will be billed for those tickets they have been allocated and in June they will be told exactly which ones they have paid for.
Many people have bid for more events than they can afford in the assumption that they will not win any. However, with the official resale website not launching until next year, it could leave some people in trouble if they win several sets of tickets and do not have the money to pay for them. There will be an opportunity for people to apply for tickets again in June or July, so if they did not get any of the events that they wanted, they will be able to select from what is left, according to CompareAway.
