Duty-Free Shops Planned for Koren Air A380s

AOL Travel: Korean Air is set to roll out physical duty-free shops this spring onboard the first of its new A380 airplanes.

The first shop, which will a feature scaled-down version of its duty-free catalogue, will be available June 10. Inventory will feature the usual popular duty-free items, including products by Lancome, jewelry and travel gear, but only limited amounts of alcohol and no tobacco.

The stores, the first of their kind, according to AIM Aviation, which designed them, will supplement the traditional catalogue sales onboard.

The airline is hoping the shopping outlets will reverse the ongoing dip in onboard duty-free sales since June 2010 by allowing passengers to browse actual products before they buy. Korean Air is the industry leader in onboard duty-free sales.

First class passengers will get dibs on shopping, followed by business and economy classes.
